Capstone note 3

Returning after a stop-out: aid questions to ask

Leaving school mid-program and coming back later can change aid eligibility, satisfactory academic progress status and which forms you file.

The short version

  1. Satisfactory academic progress rules still apply on return.
  2. Prior coursework may or may not count the same way.
  3. Talk with aid staff before you re-enroll.

Progress standards

Schools track pace and grades. A pause can affect how those calculations look.

Forms and years

Aid years and FAFSA cycles keep moving while you are away.

Re-admission versus aid

Getting back into the program and qualifying for aid are separate processes.

Who to call

The registrar and the financial aid office each answer different parts.
